I began my working life as an editorial assistant
in publishing. I moved on to become an academic, during
which period I wrote four books on contemporary history.
I then set up a literary agency with Jane Gregory
- the successful ‘Gregory and Radice’
partnership, in which I was the editorial partner
(see ‘authors’ for list of writers discovered
by the G & R Agency). During this time, I wrote
my book ‘The Way to Write Crime Fiction’
(Elm Tree Books). I have also reviewed crime
fiction for The Times.
In 2001 I decided to set up on my own as an independent editorial
consultant. Although I am well known for my interest
in crime fiction, I also edit general fiction (including women’s
fiction), as well as non fiction.
Because of my close contacts with the publishing world, I
am in a good position to recommend writers to those agents
most suited to their work. I also have strong links to individual
publishers.
I have lectured at numerous writers’ workshops.
These have included MA Creative Writing courses at the universities
of Newcastle, Bristol, and Middlesex as well as at Arvon writers’
workshops.
Past chairman of Mslexia – the magazine for women
writers.
